Call to Action

The Senate may vote on a "motion to proceed" as early as tomorrow.  The newly released 2074 page bill HR 3590 is a substiute for the original bill.  (Tax bills must originate in the House of Representatives, however, the Senate can take any tax bill -even if it is not related to health care- and gut it and substitute another tax measure which is what they have done in the health care case).   It is called the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act".  You can view it at http://thomas.loc.gov.

We urge you to call your Senators and the Senate Leaders and tell them:  Don't vote to "proceed" until all members of the Senate have had time to read the 2074 pages of this just released bill.  Voters need time to read the bill too! Every citizen and 1/6 of the U.S. economy will be affected by this bill.

U.S. Senators from Maryland

Barbara Mikulski – T- 202-224-4654; F – 202-224-8858

Benjamin Cardin – T-202-224-4524; F – 202-224-1651

U.S. Senate Leadership

Majority Leader Harry Reid – T – 202-224-3542; F – 202-224-7327

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell – T 202- 224-2541; F- 202-224-2499

Sincerely,

Ella Ennis

Over the weekend in Singapore,  President Obama acknowledged that a binding climate change agreement will be an unrealistic outcome from the Copenhagen Summit this winter.  Over 192 countries will be participating in the climate change negotiations during the 2009 Copenhagen Summit.  The focus of the Summit will now center on reaching a "political deal" that could serve as a framework for a a future global climate change treaty.
