Constitution Day
Thursday, September 17, 2009

I challenge each of you to read the U. S. Constitution before September 17th, Constitution Day. This the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U. S. Constitution.

It only takes about 30 minutes to read. I believe you will find, like I did, that this is the best 30 minutes you have spent in a long time.

Share with others! Have a Constitution Day Party...invite friends and family and enjoy thinking about the awesomeness of our country's foundation. I strongly believe that it can make a difference to us today if we adhere to it and hold our elected representatives to do so too.

The link below takes you to the document
http://www.constitution.org/constit_.htm

Why not share what you think? Write a letter to the editor, call in to your local talk radio programs or blog!

Greetings All,

Please excuse the late notice on this email but it is written in response to late breaking news that President Obama will be coming to the University of Md. in Prince George's County this Thursday to deliver yet another speech on health care reform.  As best that I can determine this is a last minute decision by the President.  Even my counterparts in the Democrat party appear to have been unaware of the event until late today.

I believe that the late notice is a deliberate tactic, designed to thwart our efforts to organize in opposition to the bill.  I believe that the administration was shocked by the huge turnout at the 9/12 Taxpayer March On D.C., in opposition to his plans.  And I believe that they are now desperate to counter that bad news with a staged event in support of the President's plan.

Given the time and location of this event, you can expect the Comcast center to be filled with students who are unaware of the details of the health care bill, the impact of its Trillion dollar price tag on their future, or the failure of the bill to even achieve its core mission of reducing health care costs.  While the timing, venue and audience offers many advantages for the President, there is one major flaw to his strategy.  Its called "the truth".  Everytime the details of his bill have been exposed, or the alternatives to it are discussed, it has been rejected by the informed citizen.

On Thursday, September 17 we will have an opportunity to tell the truth to the students at the University of Md.  Our goal is to deploy a truth squad that will hand out flyers informing them of the major flaws in the current bill, offer common sense, affordable alternatives that actually reduce the cost of health care insurance, and counter the propoganda of the administration with facts.  All of this activity will take place outside of the Comcast center just prior to the President's speech.

As usual we are forced to respond in a hurry-up offense mode.  I'm certain that none of you had planned on attending a political event in the middle of a work day.  But this is important.  The President is betting on you being too distracted by work, and other obligations to take the time to voice your opposition to his health care bill.  Only your personal sacrifice will prove him wrong.

If you are interested in making a difference on this issue, please let me know by email.  I will be sending out a 2nd email later today with details on how we will deploy for the event.  For the moment we will be acting on the following information:

What: Health Reform Rally with President Obama

Where: University of Maryland, Comcast Center
1 Terrapin Trail
College Park, MD 20742

When: Thursday, September 17th

Truth Squad Setup: 8:00 a.m.
Doors Open: 9:00 a.m.

Start Time: 11:00 a.m.

Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis, so please arrive as early as possible.  Remember, there will be security and parking restrictions so plan accordingly.

Security: All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, no sharp objects, no umbrellas, no liquids, no strollers, and no signs will be allowed into the venue.

Parking and Transportation: Parking is extremely limited around the Comcast Center and the use of public transportation is strongly encouraged. The University will provide free shuttle buses from the University of Maryland-College Park Metro Station (Green Line) to and from the Comcast Center starting at 6:00 a.m. until two hours following the event.

I hope to hear from you soon.  Please make the sacrifice.  This issue will decide the future of the country.  Its time to take a stand and make a difference.

Regards,

Mykel Harris, Chair
Republican Central Committee for
Prince George's County

National Health Care Rally
Wednesday, September 02, 2009

MFRW CALL TO ACTION!

Background:  The Liberal Organization, Progressive Maryland, is hard at work promoting President Obama’s Health Care bill.

They are coming to Centreville to hold a rally in support of a National Health Care program.

If you feel differently, we need you to come out and show them that you don’t want a National Health Care program!

Make sure your voice is heard!

When: Wednesday, September, 2 at 5 PM

Where: Mill Stream Park (west side of town as you come in or out on Rt. 213)

We are meeting at the Acme Parking Lot (the end near the high school) at 4:45 PM. You can either plan to meet there or go straight to the park.

Please remember to be polite and respectful, but feel free to bring signs to let everyone know how you feel!

Directions: From Annapolis-Route 50 East. From the end of the Bay Bridge go straight until you get to the 50/301 split. (10 miles I guesstimate) Take the LEFT side of the split which will put you on 301. The outlets will be on your right hand side.

Go to the end of the road (1 mile) to the stop sign and turn left. A half mile up the road on the right is the Acme. You will have passed Queen Annes High School before you get to the Acme. We will gather at the HS end of the Acme Store parking lot.

. To do this take the 213 North exit off Route 301 and go past the McDonalds parking lot, through the light. When you get into town the park is on the left just BEFORE the Citgo in the middle of the road on 213 (less than a mile from the stop light)

Also, please continue to call his offices and let them know how you feel. They will be going back into session soon and will be voting on this legislation. It’s important that he hears from all of his constituents.

If you disagree with the Health Care Reform Plan that the President is trying to get through Congress, I would urge you to call the Congressman's office and tell him how you feel at 202-225-5311 or toll-free 1-877-264-4226

Since Progressive Maryland provided a "sample message" I thought I would too:

"I am a constituent of Congressman Kratovil's and I would like to urge him to vote against President Obama's Health Care Reform plan that will:

-ultimately drive private insurers out of business

-take away my right to choose high deductible coverage

-take away my right to choose my own Doctor

e.     Summary of the House Bill by Liberty Council http://www.lc.org/index.cfm?PID=14102&AlertID=1015

                                          i.    Correction:  The 2nd bullet in their overview talks about rationed health care based on Section 122.  Section 122 refers to cost sharing which is defined as deductibles, co pays and coinsurance.  Rationing will likely occur as described in note F below, but not based on Section 122.

f.     Quote from Dr. Rand Paul, Medical Doctor, Candidate for Senate in Kentucky, and son of Congressman Ron Paul:  “They titled their act the Free Choice Health Care Act, but I think the more benign sounding the title, may be the more ominous the contents. Within the health care bill, it actually is going to limit your choices. You will only be able to buy government-approved insurance — pages 16 through 19 — and I think that worries people. People also see the reports, like from England, where there’s a breast cancer drug like Herceptin that blocks the estrogen receptors. It’s not available in England because it’s too expensive. I’m in the business of eye surgery and eye disease, and one of the common diseases in the eye is abnormal blood vessels that grow into the back of the eye called macular degeneration. We inject a drug called Avastin. In England you had to prove you were blind in one eye before they might let you use it in the second eye. Americans are going to be very fearful of losing their choices. We have problems in health care, but the main problem is expense, not access.”  Interview with CNN’s Kiran Chetry on August 6

5.       Please contact Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett’s Hagerstown Office 11377 Robinwood Drive, Suite F Phone: (301) 797-6043 to thank him for his stand against HB 3200.
