"WOMEN IN NUMBERS" PIN
NOW AVAILABLE

We are excited to launch our first NFRW Fundraising Project - the Win Pin. This pin is a custom design inspired by speeches at last September's NFRW convention experience of "Women in Numbers".  Consider it our rallying cry!!

With this first project, we are also introducing our concept of profit sharing our national fundraising with local clubs. We are creating fundraisers that are a win-win; local clubs and state organizations will profit from participating in our fundraising programs.

For example - the NFRW sells the Win Pin for $12.00. State organizations and local clubs may purchase the pin in volume for a reduced price. Then, in turn, sell it for the same $12.00 price resulting in a profit for the club.

We have already shipped out over 700 pins and look forward to running out of our first shipment. Not to worry - more pins are already ordered.

Click here to view the Win Pin flyer and order form.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or our Fundraising Committee Vice Chair - Carol Salmon at Cljsalmon@aol.com.

NFRW Winning Webs: Darke GOP Women

Congratulations to the ladies of the Darke County Republican Women's Club in Greenville, Ohio, on utilizing the technology of blogs to create their club's website.  They have included photos of past activities and invitations to future gatherings.  They have also included numerous links to websites that may be of interest to those who visit.  This is a good looking site that is visually appealing.  Take a look at www.darkegopwomen.blogspot.com.  Club President Margaret Muhlenkamp has verified that this is the official website of the club.  Club member and Webmaster is Barbara Martin.

What a great start for a club that is beginning to use the internet to reach out to existing and prospective members.   Google Blogspot offers templates and user-friendly tools so clubs can quickly and easily design and maintain a page without special training

Federation and Club Presidents: If you would like to submit your official website to be considered for the NFRW Winning Web of the Week, click here.   Read instructions, click on the application form, complete and send. Click here to view previous NFRW Winning Webs of the Week.

"This issue of reconciliation has been brought up. Again, I think the American people aren't always all that interested in procedures inside the Senate. I do think that they want a vote on how we're going to move this forward, and I think that most Americans think that a majority vote makes sense."

Democrats Refuse to Renounce Reconciliation

Watch President Obama in his own words talk about how health care reform  should NOT be passed with a 50 + 1 strategy.

In a speech Wednesday, President Obama called for Congress to "finish its work" on health care reform.  Obama and the Democrats have laid out a tentative strategy to ram their health care bill through Congress with a 50 + 1 strategy.

Their strategy hinges on three critical votes: the House must approve the $871 billion Senate bill, and then both the House and Senate will vote on a budget reconciliation bill that will solve several objections to the Senate bill.  It is a completely partisan strategy for the Democrats.

Key House Democrat votes include: Reps. Brian Bard (WA), Rick Boucher (VA), Bart Gordon (TN),  Frank Kratovil (MD), Suzanne Kosmas (FL), Michael McMahon (NY), Scott Murphy (NY), Glenn Nye (VA), Bart Stupak (MI), John Tanner (TN)

Key Senate Democrat votes include: Sens. Evan Bayh (IN), Mark Begich (AK),  Robert P. Casey, Jr. (PA), Amy Klobuchar (MN), Mary Landrieu (LA), Joe Lieberman (CT), Blanche Lincoln (AR), Claire McCaskill (MO), Ben Nelson (NE), Bill Nelson (FL), Mark Pryor (AR), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Mark Warner (VA)

The key to defeating health care will be the continued engagement of the American people on this issue.  Women have a great deal at stake in the current health care debate as we most often find ourselves making the health care decisions in our families.  As women, it is crucial that we continue to make our voice heard on this issue.

Contact your Representative and Senator TODAY to let them know YOU want to make the health care
decisions for you and your family!

NFRW Women in the News

The NFRW salutes Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) for representing the voice of women all over the United States at President Obama's Health Care Summit last week.

She spoke strongly about the importance of empowering the individual to make health care decisions in order to fix many of the problems facing the American health care system.   She also presented some of the solutions Republicans have offered for cost containment through purchasing insurance across state lines which would lower costs and give individuals more options.

Rep. Blackburn said, "What we're saying is we don't need more government in health care. We need to free people up and let them get outside of this and make decisions that are going to be best for their families."

Contact Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)  and thank her for being an important voice for women.

Rep.  Charlie Rangel (D-NY) has finally agreed to step down as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee as the ethics investigations surrounding him continue.

President Obama gave a speech today calling for Congress to move quickly to pass his health care proposal.   House and Senate Democrats hope to pass the bill by Easter.

Republicans are still calling on President Obama to renounce reconciliation as a tactic to pass the health care bill.

The GOP plans to introduce a "resolution of disproval" in hopes of blocking the EPA's expansion of greenhouse gas finding issued last year.

The Senate voted 78-19 to pass a bill extending unemployment benefits, highway funding, and several other programs for a month.  This happened after Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) ended his filibuster of the bill on Tuesday.

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) was named to the Senate Armed Services, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Veteran's Affairs Committees.

The Obama Health Care Summit

On Thursday, President Obama will be hosting a six hour "bipartisan" health care summit at the Blair House in Washington, D.C. to present his plan, which is a combination of the bills previously passed in the House and Senate last year.  There are also some dangerous new provisions including a new tax on capital income to fund Congress' ever reaching entitlement programs.  You can read more about Obama's Health Care Proposal here.

The best hopes for true progress on health care reform would be to completely scrap Democrats' previous plans and working with Republican ideas to draft a new approach to fixing the important problems facing the future of American health care.  In short, the summit seems to be more of a publicity stunt to help Democrats repackage a universally unpopular health care package.

According to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the following Senators will be attending the Summit:

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl, (R-AZ)
Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander, (R-TN)
Ranking Member Senate Finance Committee Chuck Grassley, (R-IA)
Ranking Member Senate HELP Committee Mike Enzi, (R-WY),
HELP Committee Member Tom Coburn, M.D., (R-OK)
 Sen. John Barrasso, M.D., (R-WY)

House Republicans have not announced who will be representing them at the Summit.

Women have a great deal at stake in the current health care debate as we most often find ourselves making the health care decisions in our families.  As women, it is crucial that we continue to make our voice heard on this issue.
